Welcome to OBIC

OBIC Clinic (formerly known as the Office-based Buprenorphine Induction Clinic) provides treatment for individuals wanting to stop, cut back, or reduce the harms related to drug use.  Founded in 2003, OBIC clinic was one of the first clinics in the country to provide office-based buprenorphine treatment.  We have treated over 2,000 patients since inception.

We provide treatment for substance use disorders with medications and evidence-based treatments in addition to treating other co-occurring mental health conditions.  Our goal is to collaborate with patients to provide individualized care based on self-identified goals.  This can include stopping or cutting back on drug use or reducing potential harm related to substance use.  We support patients through the early phases of treatment for their substance use with the ultimate goal of connecting people to long-term, integrated care with community based primary care or mental health providers.

OBIC clinic is a partnership with the City and County of San Francisco and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).  We are co-located and partner with the San Francisco Community Behavioral Health Services Pharmacy.

OBIC Poem by Christy Soran

‘Twas the night of our party, all merry and bright,

At the office we gathered, a festive delight.

Maria, our front desk star, with a smile so sweet,

Greeting patients with joy, making their visits a treat.

Lidia, in sparkly shoes, patient care in her stride,

Patients visits flowing, in sync with the tide.

Sabryna, the peacemaker, deescalating with grace,

Incentivizing change, making our workplace a better place.

Steve, a steady presence, though remote from afar,

Always there for patients, like a holiday star.

Dimi, the data driver, a supportive dad too,

Guiding us through avatar challenges, making our goals come true.

Mike, steps counting, empowering change with might,

A force for impact, making patient futures bright.

Paulette, working in a camper to get her DNP,

puts patients in control, Driving towards progress and a goal.

Leslie leads in research, with patient input so grand,

Shaping our future with a smart and caring hand.

Rebecca, salsa-ready, extending OBIC cheer,

Dancing through the evening, making joy crystal clear.

Johann, mother of cates on Fridays full of fun,

Patient care at its best, when the week is done.

Yvonne, always ready, carrying a 100 pound load,

Supporting the team on our winding road.

Dymon, a style icon, teaching as she learns,

Driving OBIC innovation, with each twist and turn.

Alex, psyching us up, in both OBIC and HOPE,

Raising a baby, with love to elope.

Dom, in walking shoes, outreach his expertise and delight,

Chasing after Carter, under day or night.

Duyen questions powers and structures in her care,

Uniting case managers, a leader so rare.

Josette, with reiki skill, navigating health’s maze,

Guiding patients through, with a comforting gaze.

Kristina, our guide in protocols and the IRB,

blessing us to find what methadone at OBIC can be.

Monique, a bridge, ‘twixt jail and community,

Sharing stories, fostering unity.

Ali, linking us all, to care systems grand,

Exploring therapy, across the psychedelic land.

Andy, rule enforcer, DSAAM’s vision in sight,

Keeping us in line, who likes roast chicken on Monday night.

So here’s to our team, diverse and so grand,

Each one playing a role, like an intricate band.

In this holiday season, let’s celebrate together,

For the care we provide, and the bonds that tether.
